Rebecca was born in Echuca and completed most of her schooling in the area. Upon completing her studies in Speech Pathology she took off on working adventures across Australia. She has worked throughout rural and remote New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory and Victoria as a Speech Pathologist, Teacher, Irlen Diagnostician, Irlen Screener and Rehabilitation Consultant. Her interventions are functional and aim to holistically meet the needs of the customer, their family and environment.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has had opportunities to work with other professionals and access diverse professional development opportunities to support her work and clientele. These influences often lead to lateral thinking and innovative intervention.
Rebecca’s experiences have exposed her to a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, intellectual, social, and educational barriers affecting individuals and families in the community. Her roles have supported many individuals and their families to access appropriate and specialised supports to enable them to reintegrate into education, work, training and the community. Her success has been testament to her problem solving, goal setting and family support skills.
In 2006 she returned to Echuca and established herself as a successful Rehabilitation Consultant. As a Rehabilitation Consultant she supported people with injuries and health conditions to access services to improve their health management, identify suitable work goals, access training and return to the workforce.
After a couple of years a few local families asked her to support their children who were falling through the cracks and struggling with demonstrating their capabilities in the education system and workplaces. What started as a rewarding hobby business to help out local people slowly crept up into an in demand business as word of mouth spread.
Rebecca’s Speech Pathology Clinic was originally opened to support local people for whom standard educational and health interventions were unsuccessful. Rebecca observed that a high number of the reading and learning challenged students and adults being referred to her Speech Pathology Clinic were bright but struggled in modern educational and vocational environments to demonstrate their knowledge.
As a result Bec has spent many hours in research, attending Professional Development in literacy, behavioural and dyslexia interventions to support her customers to achieve improved outcomes in the clinic, educational and vocational settings in their community. This lead to the business changing name from Echuca Speech Pathology to Echuca Speech Pathology and Dyslexia Services to set it apart from a clinic providing the standard scope of Speech Pathology Services. With the pending reopening of the clinic in Moama in 2019, we have adjusted the name to reflect relocation and now we are Echuca Moama Speech Pathology and Dyslexia Services. Now we focus on supporting local school aged students and adults to overcome literacy, behavioural and communication challenges.
Rebecca strives to be part of her community and support members of the local community. She has been a guest speaker for several community groups in the region, including the University of the Third Age, Independent Retirees Association, Community Friendship Groups, Probus Groups, Rotary Groups, Church Groups and Country Women’s Association branches. Rebecca is passionate about her work and enjoys helping people. She enjoys sharing her knowledge, demonstrating her skills and supporting people in the community to understand how Speech Pathologists can assist them. The charm of her role in the community is being able to change people’s lives and enabling them live normal and fulfilling lives.
Her dynamic, ready to help attitude builds solid relationships and platforms for innovative interventions and relationships. Her myriad of experience and additional qualifications ensure a holistic approach to treatment with the flexibility to adapt in the moment for better outcomes. Being multi-skilled this often means she is able to work on several areas in a single session and identify barriers to learning and success not initially identified.
In her free time, Rebecca enjoys reading, fermenting, crafts, camping, community and voluntary work. As a lifelong learner there is always a new skill to develop, a learning opportunity to explore or new project to take on.
